Review of Campus-Wide Assessment Processes

Assessment at UCR is not just about the content being assessed at either the Program or Institutional Level. We utilize all assessment processed at UCR to improve the practice of assessment itself. We do this because assessment findings may not always identify a curricular or programmatic challenge that must be overcome. Assessment findings may point challenges in the assessment process itself that may need to be improved.

At the Program and Institutional level, we encourage faculty to reflect on how assessment was carried out as part of their Annual Assessment of Student Outcomes. We ask that you reflect on:

  • What worked well during the assessment process this year?
  • Was the methodology employed a good fit for what was being assessed?
  • Was the assessment manageable?
  • Did you get the amount of faculty involvement that you would have liked?

These questions are more reflective in nature and help faculty evaluate all aspects of the assessment process and it allows the Office of Evaluation and Assessment identify areas for future workshops and professional development. Improving on how we conduct assessment at UCR is just as important as the knowledge and skills being assessed.
